Lafayette, LA – At approximately 1:30 am Sunday morning, Lafayette firefighters responded to a commercial fire at the Pizza Hut located at 4404 Ambassador Caffery. Upon their arrival, flames were noticed venting through the roof of the building. Emergency crews enter the business and discovered the fire spreading in the space above the ceiling. Firefighters battled the commercial fire for approximately 30 minutes before getting it under the control.

According to Lafayette Fire Chief, Robert Benoit, this was the second 911 call from this location within the past six hours. Fire crews responded to the same Pizza Hut location earlier at roughly 9:15 pm to a report of smoke coming from air conditioning vents and a light haze in the business. Emergency crews examined the HVAC system and turned power off to one of the units at which time the restaurant was evacuated and closed.

Fire investigators are examining the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

The building sustained heavy fire damage and the business remains closed as of this report.
