First Responders Honor Fallen Heros of 9/11

Despite heavy rains, first responders and community leaders turned out in large numbers this morning to honor and pay their respects to the fallen heroes and victims in the 9/11 attack 17 years ago.

A short service was held, followed by a moment of silence and the ringing of a bell to commemorate the historic terrorist attacks on the U.S. in 2001. Then, as if on cue, the rain stopped briefly, allowing a precessional to make it's way to the 9/11 Memorial in Parc Sans Souci, in Downtown Lafayette, where Memorial wreaths were laid in remembrance.

On September 11, 2001, 414 first responders – police, fire, and ambulance personnel died along with 2,563 citizens. The Lafayette 9/11  monument was erected in 2002.
