Jewell P. Lowe Humanitarian Award Recipients Named: Dr. John Hendry and Dr. Paul “Buddy” Azar, Jr.

Lafayette, La. -- 232-HELP is pleased to announce that Drs. John Hendry and Paul “Buddy” Azar have been selected as recipients of the 2018 Jewell P. Lowe Humanitarian Award. This award recognizes those individuals of substantial humanitarian accomplishment who exhibit a deep compassion for those less fortunate, a desire to improve the lives of the people of Acadiana and whose life’s work has positively advanced these ideas.

Both embody the humanitarian spirit of 232-HELP’s founder Jewell P. Lowe, who with area civic leaders, area lawyers, doctors, dentists, and fellow humanitarians, in 1965 established 232-HELP to help people in need return to productive and healthy lives by connecting these people with community resources and social services that address their needs. Since 1965, the organization has assisted more than 10 million people in Lafayette and surrounding parishes.

When making the announcement of the recipients, current 232-HELP President Jim Roy said, “John Hendry and Buddy Azar have been stalwarts in their support of many area charitable organizations. Together they have made a difference for Acadiana’s people in need.” Area attorney and Vice President of Development for the 232-HELP Board of Directors James Pate noted, “Their generosity has enhanced every aspect of life for the citizens of Acadiana - including education, healthcare and well-being.” Applauding the award recipients, 232-HELP Board Member Randy Haynie said, “John and Buddy have volunteered in just about every cause and charity to make our community as strong and caring as it is today!”

Drs. Hendry and Azar will be formally presented with the Jewell P. Lowe Humanitarian Award at 232-HELP’s annual gala fundraiser Anything is Possible at 6 PM October 25, 2018 at River Oaks Event Center, featuring local chefs, live and silent auctions and live entertainment.  Entertainment will be provided by Figaro, a powerhouse group of vocalists singing everything from Puccini to Bruno Mars.
