UL Lafayette Homecoming starts on October 7 and ends on gameday, October 13. The theme this year is “Back in the Mix, Back on the Bricks” which is meant to be a way to get alumni from not just the city, but from cities across the states involved in this year’s Homecoming festivities. While Homecoming is catered to alumni and students alike, this year UL Lafayette has a variety of events open to the public to participate in.

On Sunday, October 7, to kickoff the week, there will be a 5K starting at 8 a.m. at the Alumni Center. While awards will be given out for best overall male and female competitors, there will also be awards amongst different age groups. Spirit will count just as much as speed, so make sure to dress up and go all out for the costume contest. Runners will be judged on the most creative Louisiana Ragin Cajun or Homecoming-themed costume.

Tuesday, October 8 begins the two-day contest of “Paint the Town Red.” Judges will visit  businesses and schools to select winners in categories, such as exterior and interior decorations and skits. Judging for schools begins on Tuesday at 8 a.m. while businesses will be judged on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Friday, October 12 has a variety of events that includes the Bill Bass Open Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held at Vieux Chenes Golf course starting at 10:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place teams. Homecoming week comes to an exciting close on Saturday, October 13. To start the day off in true Ragin’ Cajun spirit, there will be a parade starting at 10 a.m. at Blackham Coliseum. A float carrying the queen, the king, and their courts will stop in front of the Alumni Center for a toast by University President Dr. Joseph Savoie.

A Zydeco Brunch will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cypress Lake Dining Hall in the Student Union. Diners can purchase tickets for an all-you-can-eat buffet. Tailgating will start at 1 p.m. outside Cajun Field at the Alumni tent at the soccer and track and field parking lot on Reinhardt Drive. Cracklings and jambalaya will be served. Then at 3:50 p.m., the Pride of Acadiana Marching Band’s pregame performance will begin at Cajun Field with the game starting at 4 p.m.
