LFT Parish Property Tax Extension Being Offered To Some Furloughed Federal Employees
Jan 22, 2019 09:27AM ● By Press Release
In a statement released by the LPSO, Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber is offering a property tax extension for furloughed federal workers affected by the federal government shutdown. The Sheriff’s Office will also wave any interest, penalties, or fees accrued as a result of a federal employee’s inability to make payments due to the shutdown.
“We are extending this assistance to the hard-working men and women in Lafayette Parish who have been furloughed, at no fault of their own, during the current federal government shutdown. These federal workers have no control over when the shutdown will be resolved, and we are making it a priority to provide options to them and their families during this difficult time,” said Sheriff Garber.
In order to qualify for an extension, the following requirements must be met:
- The property must be owner occupied
- Owner must be a federal employee affected by the shutdown
- Owner must provide documentation of lost wages due to the government shutdown
- Property must be current, and not in prior delinquency
- All documentation must be received by the Sheriff’s Office by February 15, 2019 at 5:00pm
Please direct questions to the Sheriff’s Property Tax Office at (337) 236-5880, or come to the Tax Department Office at 1010 Lafayette Street, 4th floor, Lafayette, La.
