Mother and Baby Escape Burning House

Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire at 113 Bridgeway Drive in Lafayette around noon on Monday where they discovered a first-floor bathroom in flames and spreading to the second floor.

According to Public Information Officer, Alton Trahan, with the Lafayette Fire Department, the fire was brought under control within thirty minutes, but the home sustained extensive fire and smoke damage.

The owner was home with her baby in the living room when she began to smell something burning. The smoke alarm activated. As she entered the bedroom, she noticed the fire in the closet. She quickly exited the house with the baby and pets. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
