Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission To Move Administrative Offices Downtown

Apr 16, 2019 03:32PM ● By Flint Zerangue, Sr.

Plans to relocate the administrative offices for the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission (LCVC) have been in the works for more than a year.

During the March 2018 Commissioners meeting, LCVC President & CEO Ben Berthelot presented a resolution to purchase the building and property located at 1100 Lafayette Street in downtown Lafayette for the sum of $635,000, which was approved by the Commission. The Commission later approved renovations of the facility in the amount of $918,000.

LCVC will continue to operate the Visitors Center on Evangeline Thruway with minimal staffing and a host of volunteers. The new Lafayette St. location will facilitate approximately 15 staffers and allow for more expansion in the future.

Barring any unforeseen delays, renovations should be completed by the end of August 2019.

The new downtown facility, which is located next to the Alexandre Mouton House [Museum] nearly doubles the size of the current center and includes an additional 3500 sq. ft. warehouse.
