LA Dept of Agriculture Reminds Farmers To File Tax Exempt Forms Before New Law Begins

Jun 24, 2019 01:57PM ● By Flint Zerangue, Sr.

Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., is reminding farmers to apply for certification as a commercial farmer with the Louisiana Department of Revenue by June 30, 2019. The new law goes into effect July 1, 2019.

The state sales tax exemption on farm agricultural inputs includes fuel, feed, seed, fertilizer and livestock pharmaceuticals.

“While this is a renewal of the tax exempt form, the Louisiana state legislature changed the law and now requires farmers to be certified as a commercial farm. Documentation must accompany the form,” said Strain.

The R-1085 form can be downloaded and submitted to the Department of Revenue by fax: (225) 237-6765 or by mail to: Louisiana Department of Revenue, Revenue Processing Center, P.O. Box 4998, Baton Rouge, La. 70821-4998.
