Arrests Made in Overnight Homicide of 2-Year-Old

Update 7/1/2019 4PM: The fourth suspect wanted for Accessory After the Fact has been located at a residence in New Iberia. 24-year-old Markeithon D. Edmond (B/M) of Lafayette has been placed under arrest and booked at the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office. He is awaiting transport to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.  

 The investigation remains on-going.  

June 30, 2019: Sunday evening, Lafayette Police responded to a call in the 100 block of Northern Avenue in reference to an injured toddler. Upon arrival, officers located a 2-year-old black male suffering from a gunshot wound. The toddler was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. 

*Three adults present at the time of the incident have been placed under arrest; the toddler’s mother 22-year-old MaKayla Cormier (B/F) of Lafayette, 18-year-old Antorio Edmond (B/M) of Lafayette and 22-year-old Nathan Bob (B/M) of Lafayette. All three have been charged with one count of Negligent Homicide. 

An additional suspect is also being sought for Accessory After the Fact. The investigation remains on-going. 

* All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
