Jul 19, 2019 10:50AM ● By Flint Zerangue, Sr.
On Thursday it was announced that the Coulee Ile des Cannes flood control project in Scott will receive $2,400,000 in funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help finance improvements to a 2,563-foot section of the Coulee Ile des Cannes drainage channel near Dulles Drive and Fenetre Road in Lafayette Parish.

“Widening and deepening Coulee Ile des Cannes will significantly improve drainage for the City of Scott and western portions of Lafayette Parish. Mitigation investments like this reduce flood risk in South Louisiana, make our communities more resilient to severe weather, and can ultimately save billions in disaster recovery costs....," said Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA).

According to LCG officials, the grant application for the project was approved by FEMA a few days ago and the final award packet is being finalized now.

Once construction plans are completed, the project's bidding process will begin.
