Lafayette firefighters responded to a reported house fire at approximately 9:00 this morning in the 300 block of Joan Street. Upon their arrival, the single-family dwelling was fully involved.

Heavy smoke and flames were venting through the front windows of the dwelling. Neighbors informed firefighters that an elderly gentleman resided at the dwelling. A search team quickly entered the burning home. Fortunately, no one was inside. The owner was out of state visiting a relative.

The fire was brought under control within fifteen minutes, but the structure and its contents sustained heavy fire damage.

Fire investigators determined the fire originated in the bedroom and was intentionally set after the home was burglarized.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact Lafayette Fire Department at 291-8716 or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
