NEW ORLEANS, LA—Citizens on the Gulf Coast now have a new way to say something if they see something.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) New Orleans Office of Field Operations announced a new hotline that will allow the traveling public to report any criminal or smuggling activity they witness in Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, or Alabama.

“Many people may witness criminal activity or may even fall victim to trade violations or smuggling and may be afraid to report it,” said Steven Stavinoha, CBP New Orleans Director of Field Operations. “This hotline provides a safe and anonymous way for them to report these crimes without fear.

Border security crimes can be reported by calling 1-866-237-3468, including narcotic and contraband smuggling, human trafficking, currency smuggling, terrorism, and immigration, trade, and agriculture violations.  Stavinoha maintains that callers will not have to provide their names, nor will their calls be traced.

“In order for us to keep our homeland safe, we need the public’s assistance,” Stavinoha said. “This hotline gives us a chance to strengthen our partnership with the communities in the Gulf Coast and boost our ability to protect our homeland.”

The CBP New Orleans Office of Field Operations is located in the historic Custom House on Canal Street. Its area of operation includes ports in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Alabama.
