Dec 30, 2019 02:07PM ● By Flint Zerangue, Sr.

(Lafayette, LA)  Officials at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center held a press conference today to update the condition of Steven "Wade" Berzas, the sole survivor of Saturday's deadly plane crash.

According to Dr. Dave "Joey" Barrios lll, Lourdes Chief of the Medical Staff and Burn Unit Director, Berzas underwent a two-hour surgery this morning for burns that cover nearly 75 of his body.  Upon his arrival at the hospital, Berzas was also treated for a shoulder dislocation and lacerations to his head. He was conscious, but unable to answer questions about the crash due to his injuries. For health reasons, he is currently intubated, medically sedated, and remains in critical condition at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center's Burn Unit.

Dr. Barrios stated that although Mr. Berzas has a long journey ahead, he has several factors in his favor, including his age, faith, and family support.

The Berzas family thanks everyone for their prayers and support, but ask for their privacy as they focus on Wade's recovers.
