Suspect Arrested In Moore Park Shooting Case

Lafayette, La.  - According to the Lafayette Police Department, investigators were able to gain enough information to obtain an arrest warrant for Jamyron Magee (19), of Angie, La. In connection with the October 15th shooting in Lafayette's Moore Park, which took the lives of Jakyrie Clark (19) and Nathaniel Sharply (18), of Lafayette.

On November 5, agents with the Western District of Louisiana United States Marshal’s Violent Offender Task Force were able to take Mr. Magee into custody without incident.  Mr. Magee is charged with 2 counts of First Degree Murder and 2 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.
He was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center where he is being held on a $400,000 bond. He is currently awaiting a court date.**

Original Report:
On October 15, 2020 at approximately 1:00 am, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to a disturbance in Moore Park.  The caller indicated there had been shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located four victims all suffering from gunshot wounds.  First aid measures were conducted by officers and Acadian Ambulance personnel prior to the victims being transported to a local hospital.

The investigation revealed that there was a large crowd gathered at Moore Park after the UL football game.  A fight began amongst the crowd, and a short time later there were gunshots.   
Two victims, Jakyrie Clark, B/M, 19 of Lafayette and Nathaniel Sharply, B/M, 18 of Lafayette succumbed to their injuries.  Jamiya Mitchell, B/F, 20 of Lafayette was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and released.  Logan Thomas, B/M, 18 of Opelousas was listed in stable condition once arriving at the hospital.  

The suspect(s) fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.  This investigation is ongoing.
