According to U.S. News & World Report®, Lafayette has been ranked as the #1 city to live in Louisiana for 2024.

Residents of Lafayette, located in southern Louisiana, enjoy a high quality of life, thanks to their access to excellent cuisine, vibrant music, and a packed calendar of festivals.

Visitors and newcomers often remark on the friendliness of Lafayette's residents, a trait likely rooted in the city's Cajun and Creole heritage. Locals frequently invite strangers for a meal, show visitors around, and explain the city's unique French names and expressions.

Lafayette's rich history is evident throughout the city. Neighborhoods range from the historic Saints Streets district to the upscale planned community of River Ranch. Additionally, residential development is thriving in downtown Lafayette, which is popular among young professionals.

What to Do in Lafayette, LA
In Lafayette, the focus is often on where to eat rather than what to do. The city boasts nearly as many restaurants as there are days in the year, many of which serve Cajun and Creole cuisine, while others offer diverse menus comparable to those in larger metropolitan areas.

The city's events calendar is busy year-round. In the spring, Festival International de Louisiane takes over downtown Lafayette, bringing musicians and artists from across the Francophone world. Festivals Acadiens et Creoles celebrates local music and culture. The region also hosts various food festivals like the Boudin Cook-Off & Acadiana Bacon Fest and the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival.
