LA Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries Investigates Fatal Boating Accident

St. Mary Parish: Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is investigating a fatal boating accident in St. Mary Parish earlier this week.
Jimmy Ruff Sr., 62, from Bayou Lourse, died in the accident. His body was given to the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office.
The LDWF got a call around 4 a.m. on July 23 about the incident in Bayou Chene. According to the boat's operator, he and Ruff Sr. were coming back from fishing and heading home. They saw the flood control lock lights and began to slow down.
While slowing down, they hit something in the water. This caused Ruff Sr. to be thrown forward in the boat. He was badly hurt and became unresponsive.
The operator called for help right away and went to the Amelia Boat Launch. Sadly, Ruff Sr. was pronounced dead soon after.
