Lafayette, LA – Lafayette has been recognized as one of the 50 Best Places to Live for Families in 2024 by Fortune. This honor was announced on July 23 as part of Fortune’s third annual ranking, which highlights cities and towns across the U.S. that are ideal for multigenerational families. The list includes cities known for excellent schools, top-rated hospitals, affordable housing, resources for older adults, and a strong sense of community.

This year, the Fortune 50 Best Places to Live for Families list identifies one city in each state where multigenerational families are most likely to thrive. The ranking is part of Fortune Well, a hub dedicated to health and wellness, offering tips and insights to help working professionals succeed in both their careers and personal lives. Other cities named in the list include Franklin, Tennessee; Frisco, Texas; San Jose, California; Wake Forest, North Carolina; Bentonville, Arkansas; and more.

“The 50 Fortune Best Places to Live for Families list is built on comprehensive data to help our readers find communities that provide ample resources for families,” said Fortune senior reporter Alexa Mikhail. “Where we live has a major impact on the strength of our community ties, which in turn affects our well-being, happiness, and health at work and at home. This is why a list like this is so important.”

Jennifer Fields, editor of Fortune Well, added, “As more people find themselves in the sandwich generation—caring for both children and aging parents—they’re looking for communities that support these needs. In our research, the cities that stood out offered a wide range of resources and amenities that appeal to both the youngest and oldest residents.”

To create this list, Fortune collaborated with several key data partners, including CVS Health, Caring.com, Healthgrades, Ineedana.com, Sharecare, and WitLytic. They analyzed nearly 200 data categories and evaluated over 2,000 cities, towns, suburbs, exurbs, villages, and townships with at least 20,000 residents across all 50 states. This thorough analysis ensured a diverse selection of places that offer essential resources like healthcare, education, and a strong sense of community.

Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet expressed her excitement about the city’s recognition: “It’s no surprise that Lafayette was named one of the 50 Best Places to Live for Families by Fortune! Our quality of life and sense of community are infectious. These strengths stem from our strong family traditions in cooking, singing, playing, and working together—values we cherish as a community.”

Mandi Mitchell, President and CEO of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority, shared similar sentiments. “This recognition highlights the qualities that make Lafayette a top place to live and work. We’re thrilled that our collaborative efforts with Lafayette Travel, One Acadiana, Lafayette Consolidated Government, and the Lafayette Economic Development Authority to share our story are paying off.”
