Small Plane Crash on Lafayette Golf Course Leaves One Dead

(LAFAYETTE, LA)   A tragic plane crash occurred Thursday morning in Lafayette, leaving one person dead after his small aircraft went down shortly after takeoff. The crash happened on the golf course at Oakbourne Country Club, located just across the Vermilion River from the Lafayette Regional Airport.

The victim has been identified as local businessman Greg Manuel.  According to the Lafayette Consolidated Government, Manuel was the sole occupant of the plane and pronounced dead at the scene.

The plane took off at 11:35 a.m., and a 911 call reporting the crash was received just two minutes later. Local emergency teams, including the Lafayette Fire Department, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, Acadian Ambulance, and Lafayette Airport Commission, responded to the incident.

Officials have confirmed that the aircraft involved was a single-engine Hawker Beechcraft. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to take over the investigation, with an NTSB investigator arriving on site by tomorrow.

As of now, no additional details about the cause of the crash have been released.
