Culinary Camp: 8th-9th Grade

SOWELA Technical Community College will host six weeks of hands-on culinary camps this summer, offering students in grades 6–12 an opportunity to explore careers in the hospitality industry while developing real-world kitchen skills.

Held at SOWELA’s Main Campus in Lake Charles, camps will run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the college’s professional-grade kitchens. Participants will learn from SOWELA’s experienced faculty chefs in an engaging, interactive environment designed to introduce fundamental culinary techniques and industry practices.

Throughout the camp, students will gain experience in basic knife skills and kitchen safety, food preparation and cooking techniques, baking fundamentals, menu planning and food presentation, teamwork and time management in a professional kitchen.

2026 Culinary Camp Schedule:

  • June 1–5: 6th–7th grade
  • June 8–12: 8th–9th grade
  • June 15–19: 6th–7th grade
  • June 22–26: 8th–9th grade
  • No camp June 29–July 5
  • July 6–10: 10th–12th grade
  • July 13–17: 6th–7th & 8th–9th grades (split camp)

Registration is $300 per student and includes all supplies, ingredients, and daily breakfast and lunch. Space is limited, and camps are expected to fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged.
