NOTE*: Although this information was received from credible sources, the Louisiana State Police, who are handling this investigation have not released a statement on this development.

Just over a week ago, we reported the tragic news that Senior Corporal Segus Jolivette of the Lafayette Police Department had been killed, with three other officers wounded during a shootout. Sadly, we have now learned that Officer Jolivette was killed by "friendly fire." This means that the fatal bullet came from one of the Lafayette SWAT Team’s weapons.

Officer Jolivette, who served as a hostage negotiator, was one of four officers hit during an exchange of gunfire with an armed suspect in Jeanerette. The suspect, Nyjal Hurst, reportedly opened fire on the police when they attempted to serve an arrest warrant, leading to the deadly confrontation.

Hurst, a convicted felon, was taken into custody and is being held on outstanding charges. However, he has not yet been charged in connection with the shootout. The two hostages he was holding were safely rescued by the police.

As this is an ongoing story, we will provide updates as more information becomes available.

*All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law...
